ABOUT US

Every student of K.C.Thackeray Vidya Niketan is an empowered educated citizen able to make informed choices. At KCT, we believe that children are citizens today. Through authentic learning  experiences, character development, data driven instruction and partnerships in the community, we remove inequity in society, transforming it.

This happens in school every day as;

  • Every member of the school community takes ownership over their own learning, by setting goals, self assessing and working out a strategy to get there. There is a push towards excellence in every aspect of what one does at KCT.

  • By making the school a safe, collaborative and inspiring space, where every member treats the other with dignity and respect, and appropriately asserts his/her rights and responsibilities as citizens.

  • All lessons in KCT provide authentic learning experiences that help students process their world today, give back to society and learn and lead with enthusiasm and joy.

In doing this, we stretch to do our best, push our limits, find hidden treasures and love who we are, so that we can choose rather than be led. Rather than being a victim of circumstances, we become in charge of our lives.

The Red Door® is a gateway into a space that explores the idea that every human being is normal, or conversely, each is mad in their own unique way. TRD has been working to counter notions and social stigma attached to mental differences and works to counter false notions attached to the same.

Children are being diagnosed casually and medically treated for mental illness while the cause or triggers for their experiences are not being addressed. TRD works towards the implementation of UNCRPD and other International Human Rights treaties. We have recognized that early intervention should not mean medically treating children but recognizing that prevention works better than cure.

We recognize that societal structures follow a conventional make-up and structure which hinder individualistic growth. Every person has their own unique style, feelings and experiences which need to be cultivated and cared for. By supporting and encouraging children to be responsible individuals in a community, we can help equip them to get better at handling disabling conditions outside school and throughout their life.

This helps in children and young adults being able to understand their own emotions and responses to situations. This empowers them to help themselves in a manner that is real and safe for them and their families.

Over a period of time, this helps in building happier homes, relationships and people.
